Villajoyosa (the jewelled town) lies just 5 kilometers to the south of Benidorm, it is truly mediteranean with multi coloured facades in every street, it has a large port and yachting harbour but still relies heavily on its fishing industry. But fishing is not the only industry, it is also well known for making chocolate with two large factories, both offer tours of their premises and both have museums tracking the history of cocoa and chocolate making. The old part of town makes an interesting place to visit with typical fishermans houses, the dry river bed is another interesting site with the houses seemingly propped on the edge of the hill all gaily painted.
